The 'Home to Everyone From Everywhere!' Brooklyn is considered New York City's most popular borough with approximately 2.5 million residents. Before its consolidation with New York in 1898, Brooklyn was an independent city and was dubbed the 'City of Trees', the 'City of Homes' and the 'City of Churches'. To this day Brooklyn holds a distinct character of its own, despite its consolidation with New York. Like the rest of the densely populated New York City, Brooklyn's population salad bowl of blacks, whites, Hispanics, Asians and Europeans amongst other groups.
